Gloria Nell Materne Bertrand

Gloria Nell Materne Bertrand, 92, passed away on Monday, April 19, 2021.  She was born on October 20, 1928 to the late Murphy and Dorice Bushnell Materne.  Nell attended school in Lake Charles, graduating from Marion High School as Valedictorian in May 1948.  On September 1, 1950, Nell married William Shirley Bertrand.  They had six children.

Nell loved the Lord, and she loved her family.  She showed her love by all the wonderful meals she prepared.  Her church, Pine Grove Baptist of DeQuincy, was an important part of her life.  She enjoyed the ladies in her Sunday school class, and the senior group, the “Elderberries.”

She is survived by her children, Mark Bertrand (Sally), Trudy Hancock (Ray), Donna Spence, Randy Bertrand (Joy), and Nate Bertrand (Lydia).  Also, her brother, Donald Dean Materne, and her sister, Margaret Weber (Bob).  She also leaves to cherish her memory, a legacy of eighteen grandchildren, and twenty-five great grandchildren.

Preceding her in death are, her parents; her brothers, Buster and Floyd Materne; her sisters, Marie Shively, and Lee Smith; also, her son, Timothy Arnold Bertrand, and her grandson, Mack David Hancock.

Visitation will be in the Johnson Funeral Home of Moss Bluff chapel on Friday, April 23, 2021 from 8:30 AM until the time of the service at 11:00 AM.  Burial will follow in McFatter Cemetery in DeQuincy, LA under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home.
