Glynn Broussard

d. November 20, 2017

On November 20, 2017, Glynn Broussard, (90), a long-time resident of Sulphur, Louisiana joined his wife Sue, his son Matt and daughter Jody in God’s peaceful heaven.  What a glorious reunion that had to be.

Glynn was born June 21, 1927 in San Antonio, Texas and relocated to Sulphur after a brief stay in Hackberry.  At the age of 10, he lost his younger brother, Howard, Jr. to pneumonia while Junior was six years old.  His father, Howard Broussard, Sr. died from pneumonia ten days later at the age of thirty-three. His mother Evelyn later married Ray Perryman who became Glynn’s step-father for many years.

Glynn graduated from Sulphur High in 1945.  He served as vice president of both his junior and senior classes.  He played on two of Sulphur High School’s four state championship football teams.  He was inducted into the SHS Hall of Fame in 2016.

Following graduation, at the age of 17, he enlisted in the United States Navy.  The war with Germany ended the day he enlisted.  The atomic bombs were dropped on Japan while he was still in boot camp.  Following his discharge from the Navy, he worked construction until he was hired by the Firestone Tire and Rubber Company where he worked for 33 years, retiring as a shift foreman.  Glynn was a lifetime member of VFW Post 8107.  He was a member of Our Lady of LaSalette Church and the Knights of Columbus Council 8978.

He was elected to the Calcasieu Parish School Board for five consecutive terms (22 years).  He served in two terms as vice president and two terms as president.  During his time on the school board, he was appointed to serve on the Louisiana School Board Athletic Association, representing all 66 school boards in the state.  He was also elected to the Board of Directors of the Louisiana School Board Association, representing a 13-parish area.

He leaves to cherish his memory two daughters, Glynda Dougherty (Tony), Bonnie Breaux, a stepdaughter, Carol Allphin, and a grandson he raised as his own, Casey Broussard (Adrienne).  He also leaves twelve other grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren, along with his loving sister Evelyn Smith.

He was predeceased by his wife Sue, a daughter Jody Sylvester (Eric), a son Matt, his father Howard, Sr., his mother and stepfather, Evelyn and Ray Perryman and his brother, Howard, Jr.

Always seeking to serve others, Glynn donated his body to science.  A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, December 9, 2017 at Johnson and Robison Funeral Home.  Visitation will begin at 9 AM with a memorial service to follow at 1 PM with Father Andrews Kollannoor, M.S. presiding.
