Gregory Mark “Flash” Demarie, 71, of Lake Charles, passed away at 7:39 p.m. on April 15, 2026, at his residence.
Gregory was born on January 1, 1955, in Lake Charles, where he spent his entire life and built lasting connections within the community he loved.
A proud graduate of LaGrange Senior High School, he carried on the Demarie name with pride, making his mark on the football field with determination and grit.
Known to many as “Flash,” Gregory dedicated his career as an ironworker and was a past member of Local Union 678.
“Flash” became a local legend for his daring spirit, most notably remembered for his “death-defying” skateboard ride down the I-210 bridge in 1971—a moment that has lived on through a widely shared YouTube video, earning thousands of views, likes, and comments over the years.
Gregory had a deep appreciation for the outdoors and found joy in fishing and hunting. Each New Year’s Day, which also marked his birthday, he celebrated by hosting “The Wildlife Stew and Smokeout,” sharing the harvest of his season with family and friends.
In the evenings, he could often be found around a pool table, where he enjoyed both friendly competition and tournament play.
Above all, Greg will be remembered for his storytelling, his quick wit, and his ability to make others laugh. His presence brought light and laughter to those around him.
Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Jeanie Jo Stodder Demarie; his brother, Mike Demarie (Sue); his uncle, Carl E. Fontenot (Barbara); his beloved dog companion, Jax; his feline companion, Smoke; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Wilbert John and Annie June Demarie; his brother, John E. Demarie; his paternal grandparents, John and Agnes Demarie; and his maternal grandparents, Eddie and Etta Fontenot.
A visitation will be held at Johnson Funeral Home in Lake Charles on Tuesday, April 21, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.
