Greta Elizabeth Painter, 43, passed away on the morning of Sunday, May 16, 2021, with her family by her side.
Greta was born in Odessa, TX, but spent much of her childhood in Albuquerque, NM, before moving to Vinton, LA in 1991. She quickly and wholeheartedly embraced the people and culture of Southwest Louisiana, and made it her home. Greta was a very talented, and locally acclaimed artist, whose watercolors were featured in local magazines, calendars, at art shows, and on the walls of several local establishments. Those who knew her best will remember Greta for her quick wit, determined spirit, rebel heart, and the deep and enduring love she had for her daughter.
Those left to cherish her memory include her daughter, Clara Jane Says (and Clara’s father Offord Wesley Says III) of Houma, LA; her mother, Rebecca Bertrand, of Vinton, LA; her father, Gregory Painter (and wife Ann) of Seneca, KS; her sister, Samara Courmier (and husband Willie) of Sulphur, LA; as well as her nieces and nephews, Trent, Ava, Connor, Carter, and Sophie, all of Sulphur, LA; and her two grandmothers, Barbara Venator of Caballo, NM and Elva Kurtz of Horton, KS.
She was preceded in death by her grandfathers, Joseph Venator and Dallas Kurtz, her uncle Kenneth Venator, and a beloved “bonus dad” James Bertrand, Sr.
