Guy Rich "Richie" Plauche

January 21, 1950 — May 30, 2026

Guy Rich "Richie" Plauché, 76, passed away on May 30, 2026, in the peace of his home.

Richie grew up in Lake Charles, Louisiana, and was often described as a bit of a menace on Helen Street and the surrounding neighborhoods. He never tired of telling stories from those early years, and over time they became family lore that will be retold for generations to come. He graduated from Landry High School in 1968 and often spoke with pride of his exploits running track for the school. He then went on to LSU, graduating in 1973 with a bachelor's degree in Risk Management and Insurance.

He met the love of his life, Mary Marcia Trahan Plauché, at a friend' wedding, or rather, at the reception, since he skipped the wedding and went straight to the celebration. The two would go on to share 52 wonderful years together, raising a family in Sulphur before retiring along the West Fork of the Calcasieu River in Moss Bluff.

Richie spent nearly 50 years in the insurance industry. He began his career at Plauché Insurance Agency in Lake Charles and later worked for Shelter Insurance in Sulphur. He took pride in helping people and built many lasting friendships throughout his career.

He was a longtime member of the Lake Charles Yacht Club, where he spent many years racing catamaran sailboats. In retirement, he could be found fishing along the river, taking his children and grandchildren out on the boat, or tinkering with his firearms, not just shooting them, but taking them apart, cleaning them, and putting them back together. He was an avid music lover, with a particular fondness for the classics of the 1950s and 60s.

Those who knew Richie knew there was never anyone quite like him. He was quirky, opinionated, playful, and full of character. He loved making people laugh and was always ready with a joke, a story, or a little mischief. He was a natural storyteller and never passed up an opportunity to tell one, especially the stories about the many times he somehow managed to cheat death and add another chapter to what he proudly called his " lives." Whether you were hearing the story for the first time or the fiftieth, Richie told it with the same enthusiasm every time.

He enjoyed picking on his grandchildren, sharing stories, sipping whiskey, and doing things his way and only his way. He could be stubborn and was firmly convinced he knew the right way to do just about everything. Beneath that stubborn streak, however, was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend with a generous heart.

More than anything, Richie loved his family. Though spread across five states, he and Marcia built a close-knit family whose bonds remain strong no matter the distance. To his

grandchildren, he was affectionately known as "Papa" a name he wore proudly and lived up to in every way.

He is survived by his wife, Marcia Plauché; his children, Geoffrey Plauché (Sajida), Emily Plauché (Dustin), Bruce Plauché (Deidre), Christina Plauché Calloway (Ben), Zachary Plauché (Christine), and Adam Plauché (Autumn); his sixteen grandchildren, Sophie, Rohan, Owen, Reece, Miles, Tessa, Corinne, Delilah, Julian, Eliza, Quentin, Marley, Maddy, Colette, Gloria, and Mason; and his sister, Renee Nesper (Dave).

He was preceded in death by his parents, Wade and Martha " Plauché; his brothers, Wade " and Daniel Plauché; and his sister, Patricia.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 17, 2026, at St. Theodore Catholic Church in Moss Bluff. Interment of his urn will follow at Westlake Memorial Cemetery in Westlake, Louisiana.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 17, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at Johnson Funeral Home of Moss Bluff, with a Rosary to be prayed at 1:00 p.m. prior to the Mass.

Richie will be remembered for his stories, his sense of humor, his love of music, his life on the river and the outdoors, and the deep love he had for his family.

" me with smiles and laughter, for that is how I will remember you all. If you can only remember me with tears, then don't remember me at all."
