Gwendolyn Faye Demeritt

October 3, 1953 — February 3, 2026

Lake Charles, Louisiana

Gwendolyn Faye Demeritt, 72, passed away peacefully at home in Lake Charles on Tuesday, February 3, 2026. A lifelong resident of the area, Gwen was born on October 3, 1953, in Lake Charles to Elmer and Billie Jett Demeritt.

Gwen lived a quiet and steady life, marked by independence, intelligence, and a gentle spirit. She was a graduate of LaGrange High School and went on to attend McNeese State University. Her career led her to Houston, Texas, where she worked as a computer programmer. After ten years, she took early retirement and eventually returned home to Lake Charles, where she spent the remainder of her life.

Though she never married and had no children, Gwen’s heart was full. Her many beloved pets were like family to her, and she cared for them with deep affection. She found comfort in the simple rhythms of daily life and remained close to those she loved.

Gwen will be remembered for her quiet strength and the steady presence she brought to her family. May she now rest in peace, reunited with those who have gone before her, and may her memory remain a gentle blessing to those who loved her.

Those left to cherish her memory are her brother, Earl Demeritt, and wife Betty; her niece, Janna Peterson, and husband Kelly; her nephews, Michael Demeritt, Brandon Demeritt, and David Demeritt; and her great-nieces, Meredith Peterson and Victoria Peterson. She was preceded in death by her parents; and her brother, Keith Demeritt.

Cremation has been entrusted to Johnson Funeral Home of Lake Charles.
