Our beautiful mother has stepped from this life and into the loving arms of Jesus. She is now with her sweet Savior. Gwendolyn “Gendy Gale” Midkiff, age 78, left this Earth on January 14, 2026, from High Hope Care Center in Sulphur, LA. Gendy Gale was born on November 3, 1947, in Lake Charles, LA to Lawrence Earl and Lucille Gorum as the oldest of six children and was loved by all her brothers and sisters, whom she deeply loved in return. She is preceded in death by her parents and brother, Tommy Gorum. Left to cherish her memory are her husband of over 60 years, Sherman Lee Midkiff and two daughters, Dawn Donaldson and husband, Scott, of Houston, Texas and Crystal Luther and husband, Michael, of Harker Heights, Texas. She absolutely adored being ‘Gendy Gale” to her seven granddaughters: Courtney Myers, Candace Zlatnik and husband, Cody, Lindsey Hinerman and husband, Key, Kaitlyn LeBlanc, Kayleigh LeBlanc, Jennifer Hanson and husband, Kyle, and Amanda Baldridge. She has 14 great grandchildren and one great great grandson. She is also survived by two sisters, Karen Gorum and Nancy Campbell and two brothers, Glen Gorum and Danny Gorum. She will be truly missed by her best friend of over 50 years, Judy Phelps of Whitesboro, Texas and her two yorkies, Keiki and Teddi Bear.
Gendy Gale was a 1965 graduate of Sulphur High School and worked as a school bus driver for Maplewood Middle School for 18 years. Her primary job was a devoted wife and mother.
Gendy Gale is remembered and celebrated by her family and friends for many things-her love for Jesus; her adoration for her family; her beautiful smile; her enjoyment for clowns; her excitement for Ferris Wheels; her fear of the S-word and that meant “spider”; her respect of the Red, White and Blue (she loved America); her joy in attending concerts and musicals; her gentleness; her kind and loving heart; and always being ready to ride the most thrilling rollercoasters. She was baptized and attended South Sulphur Church of Christ for many years.
Services for Gwendolyn will be held on Tuesday, January 20, 2026, at 1 PM at Johnson Funeral Home of Sulphur with Pastor Marcus Wade officiating. Visitation will be from 10 AM until the time of service. Burial will follow at Cooper Cemetery.
The family would like to thank Dr. Brian Stewart, nurse Jennifer Doyle, Brighton Bridge Hospice, High Hope Care Center, West Calcasieu Cameron Hospital, and Jessica Lamica for the care given to our mother during her illness. They all gave very professional, gentle, and loving support to both our mother and the entire family during this difficult time.
