Gwendolyn Ann Ramsey, 78, of Lake Charles passed away at 10:15 AM on Friday, May 24, 2024 in a local hospice facility.
Raised in Eunice, she attended Eunice High School before moving to Kinder and later settling in Lake Charles. For 13 years she graced the halls of Calcasieu Parish schools where she served as a cafeteria worker until retiring in 2007. During this time she also spent 17 years with LeBleu Sitting Service providing compassionate support as a caregiver until her retirement in 2006. Mrs. Ramsey was a faithful member of Living Way Pentecostal Church. Her unwavering commitment to her beliefs was evident in her daily rituals, including her faithful reading of the Bible each morning and bringing her grandchildren to church with her on Sundays.
Her kitchen was a place of warmth and comfort where she delighted in preparing meals for her family. Her green thumb brought beauty as she lovingly tended to her garden and vibrant flowers.
Those left to cherish her memory are her children, James LeJeune of Florida, Kent LeJeune of Lafayette, Jason Ramsey (Bonnie) of Lake Charles, and Tonya Sue Self (Kevin) of Atlanta, GA; step daughter, Kimberly Ann Horner (Kenny) of Atlanta, GA; step sister in law, Janell Ramsey of Atlanta, GA; fourteen grandchildren; eighteen great grandchildren; and one great great grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Edgar R. Ramsey; son, Danny LeJeune; her parents, Callie and Albert Roy; grandson, Josh Ramsey; step sons, Michael Ramsey and Randy Ramsey; siblings, Jeanette Miller, Keith Roy, and Harry “Nookie” Roy; and several half siblings.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Sunday, May 26, 2024 in the Johnson Funeral Home chapel. The Rev. Brent Keating will officiate. Burial will follow in Highland Memory Gardens. Visitation will begin at 12:00 PM until the start of the service.
