Harry Allen Veillon, 73, of Lake Charles, passed away on Thursday, November 16, 2017, in his home, surrounded by his loving family.
Mr. Veillon graduated from LaGrange High School in 1964 and served eight years in the National Guard. He was an avid softball player, playing in state and national championship games in both fast and slow pitch, until becoming involved with breeding and raising lambs for his children to participate in 4-H. He served as a leader in the Calcasieu Parish Sheep Project. He was a member of the Calcasieu Parish Livestock Show and Sales Committee for over 25 years. He served as Past President of the Louisiana Sheep Producers Association and was Vice President of the Louisiana Little Britches Rodeo Association. Mr. Veillon donated countless hours to the Calcasieu Parish Livestock Program. He was recognized in 2017 at the Calcasieu Parish Junior Livestock Premium Sale as the Living Honorary Sales Chairman.
He retired from PPG Industries in 2006 after 38 ½ years of service. He was a member of St. Luke Simpson United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 52 years, Bernadot “Dot” Foreman Veillon, and three children, Tricia Veillon Berry and husband Walter, Tim Veillon and his wife Dawn, and Tiffanie Veillon Potts; grandchildren Devin Hebert, Garet Berry, Haylee Berry Mathews, Emma Berry, Chet Veillon, Allie Veillon, Laikyn Potts, and Kassidi Potts; five great grandchildren; and two sisters, Berna Dean Veillon Johnson and Brenda Veillon Sargent and husband James “Willie”.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Vernie Benoit Veillon, his brother, Wayne Keith Veillon, his sister, Arlene Veillon Miller; brother-in-law, Dennis Johnson; and son-in-law, Kenneth Jacob Potts.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 PM Sunday, November 19, 2017 in the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. John Robert Black will officiate. Interment will follow in Consolata Cemetery. Visitation Saturday will be from 3:00 PM until 9:00 PM and will resume Sunday from 10:00 AM until the time of service.
The family would like to express their grateful appreciation for the compassionate care given their beloved husband, father, and grandfather by the staff of Heart of Hospice, in particular Amanda Mason and Anita Malone, caretaker Sheila Biagas, and all of the family that helped throughout this time.
