Harry O. Burt, Sr., died on October 22, 2025, at 3:00 AM.
Mr. Burt was born in Noxapater, Mississippi on June 28, 1941, and had lived in the Lake Charles/Moss Bluff area since 1957.
He served in the United States Army and was a Vietnam veteran where he was awarded several medals including the Bronze Star. He was an Engineering Specialist with the LaDOTD and retired with 30 years’ service. He also worked for the Calcasieu Parish Police Jury, retiring in 2001 as Operations Manager with the Department of Public Works. He was a member of St. Theodore's Catholic Church, VFW Post 7321 and Knights of Columbus Council 3622.
He will be remembered for his overwhelming generosity and kindness, his endlessly quick wit, and his love of country music and old western films. Though his humility was legendary, he will be remembered by his family as the ultimate example of how to love.
Mr. Burt is survived by wife of sixty-three years, Patricia R. Burt of Moss Bluff; son Harry O. Burt, Jr. of Lake Charles; daughter Cynthia Koonce and husband Joel of Moss Bluff; grandchildren Zakary, Cole and Shianne Burt; granddaughter Hannah Koonce and husband Colby Fruge; and grandson Parker Koonce.
He was preceded in death by his parents Jim and Ethel Burt, brothers Jimmy, Bobby and Rusty Burt and sisters Carolyn Kelley, Frances Davis and Shirley Sharpe.
Funeral service will be held at the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel in Moss Bluff at 2:00 PM on Saturday with Fr. Guilbeau officiating. A rosary will be said at 6:00 PM on Friday. Burial will be at New Ritchie Cemetery immediately after the funeral service. Visitation will be from 5:00 until 8:00 on Friday and from noon until time of service on Saturday.
