Helen Abshire Miller

Helen Abshire Miller, born in Kaplan on November 6, 1935, daughter of the late Gerald and Pearl Hargrave Abshire, passed away in a local care facility on Saturday, March 29, 2025. She was eighty-nine.
A graduate of Lacassine High School, Helen was bus driver for the Jeff Davis Parish School Board. She enjoyed reading, sewing, and cooking for her family. Helen was a member of Woodlawn Baptist Church.
She is preceded in death by her parents; spouse, Otis James Miller, son, Monty Miller; brothers, Carroll Miller, Calvin Miller, Douglas Abshire, sister-in-law, Effie Abshire, niece, Eileen Abshire, and nephew, Wayne Abshire.
Left to cherish wonderful memories are her children, Susan Johnson, Lorrie LeFranc and spouse, Ronnie, and Carl Miller and spouse, Jan; seven grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; siblings, Glenda Stewart (Jeff), Mildred Miller, Carlton Abshire (Mae Dell), Gerald “Tee” Abshire, Jr. (Gayle), and Gloria Beasley (Bill).
Funeral services will be in Johnson & Brown Funeral Home of Iowa on Tuesday, April 1, 2025 at 2 p.m. Pastor Richard Louviere will officiate. Burial will follow in Pine Hill Cemetery under the direction of Johnson & Brown Funeral Home of Iowa. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m.
