Helen Daughenbaugh Vincent, 84, of Deridder, LA passed away at 8:42 AM on Thursday, June 18, 2025 in a local hospital. She was affectionately known as “Mompy”.
Born on March 1, 1942, in Lake Charles, Louisiana, she was raised in a pioneering rice-farming family on a working farm that produced rice, soybeans, and Black Angus cattle. A true farm girl at heart, she developed a strong work ethic early in life and was skilled in all aspects of farm life, including driving tractors and helping operate the family farm.
She graduated as an Honor Graduate from Bell City High School in 1960, where she distinguished herself academically, athletically, and as a leader.
Continuing her education, she attended McNeese State University, where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Agricultural Business. During her college years, she was a member of the Delta Zeta social sorority and was the first girl on the McNeese Livestock Judging Team. She was also a member of the Block and Bridle Club. Upon graduation, she received the prestigious National Senior Award in recognition of her achievements and leadership.
Following graduation, she married Glenn Vincent, and together they made their home on the Daughenbaugh farm. Throughout her life, she remained deeply committed to agriculture and agricultural education. She was an active member and leader in numerous organizations, including the Calcasieu Cow Belles, Louisiana Cow Belles, American National Cow Belles, the McNeese Ag Alumni Association, and 4-H programs. She also played a key role in reestablishing the McNeese Rodeo Hall of Fame.
Her dedication extended far beyond agriculture. She devoted countless hours to civic and community service, preparing meals for numerous groups, clubs, and organizations and volunteering with local Little League baseball and softball programs.
While raising her children, she lovingly sewed many of their outfits by hand.
Mrs. Vincent was a member of First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Lake Charles where she assisted with Bible school.
Those left to cherish her memory are son, Douglas Vincent (Lyndi); daughter, Jolynn James (Kile); grandson, Austin Glenn James; nephew, Monty Daughenbaugh; great nephew, Cody Benoit; special nephew, Mark Benoit (Terri);a special cousin, Richard “Dick” Daughenbaugh; and Julie Silver, who was like another daughter.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 36 years, Glenn Vincent; her parents, LeRoy and Mabel Daughenbaugh; paternal grandparents, E.O. and Grace Daughenbaugh; maternal grandparents, Leon and Mabel Chavanne; brother, Earl LeRoy Daughenbaugh; and a niece, Monica Lynn Daughenbaugh Benoit.
A funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, June 23, 2026 in the Johnson Funeral Home chapel of Lake Charles. Pastor Leslie Mansell will officiate. Burial will follow in Prien Memorial Park. Visitation will begin on Monday from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM and will continue on Tuesday from 9:00 AM until the start of the service.
Pallbearers will be: Rick Daughenbaugh, Mark Benoit, Jake Daughenbaugh, Gentry Silver, Tom Sims, and Matt Benasutti. Honorary pallbearers will be: Bill and Dick Daughenbaugh.
