Henry J. Duplantis, Jr. age 77, passed away on Monday, May 26, 2025 at 6 p.m. after a brief, courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. His unwavering spirit in the face of adversity was an inspiration to all who knew him. Born on November 24, 1947, he brought laughter with his jokes and a sense of humor with that twinkle in his blue eyes.
He was a proud, retired United States Navy veteran that served his country with honor and dedication for 20 years as an Aviation Fire Control Technician, Airplane Traffic Control, cryptic Maintenance and instructor.
Henry has a strong faith in God and cherished his family above all else. One of Henry’s greatest passions was teaching students Instrumentation and Electrical at Sowela. He always worked towards making sure his students received the best education possible.
In his younger days, he loved scuba diving in Guam and running marathons. In his later years, he enjoyed swimming laps for exercise.
Henry was born and raised in Kinder, Louisiana. He graduated from Kinder High School in 1965. He kept in touch with many classmates and last year attended KHS 59th class reunion. In high school, Henry played all sports.
Henry was a member of East Ridge Baptist Church. The family request that memorial donations be made to East Ridge Baptist Church Building Fund at 5400 Hwy 397 in Lake Charles, Louisiana.
He is survived by his loving wife, Cheryl, of 20 years and children, Tina Duplantis, Tanya LeBert (Chad), Troy Duplantis, Avery Duplantis, and stepchildren, Amy Brassette (Richard), Cheri Ottaway (Matthew). He is also survived by one sister, Juanita Kersey and one brother, Albert Duplantis; two grandchildren, Jake and Kylie LeBert, three step grandchildren, Drew and Walker Brassette and Thomas Ottaway. He was preceded in death by his father, Henry J. Duplantis, Sr., mother, Lula Lafargue Duplantis; sisters, Betty Ogea, Irene Billodeaux and Juanetta Neal; brothers, Alfred Duplantis and T.J. Duplantis.
Pallbearers will be Chad LeBert, Jake LeBert, Mike Newell, Robbie Johnson, Robert LeBouef and Troy Duplantis. Honorary Pallbearers will be Albert Duplantis and Steven Short.
Funeral services will be held in Johnson & Brown Funeral Home of Iowa, Louisiana on Thursday, May 29, 2025 at 2 p.m. Bro. Alan Weishampel, Officiant. Burial will follow in Pine Hill Cemetery under the direction of Johnson & Brown Funeral Home of Iowa. Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. in the funeral home.
