Herbert "Jimmie" Simmons

Herbert “Jimmie” Simmons, 86, of Sulphur passed away on December 14, 2015 in his residence surrounded by his family. He lived in the Sulphur area for 32 years, retiring after 33 years from Texaco Refinery. Jimmie enjoyed flying small planes and fishing. He was in James Kingston’s Band in the 50’s and several other bands. Jimmie played guitar, bass fiddle, piano and saxophone all by ear. He loved having his family around him and will be missed by all who knew him.   Jimmie is survived by his wife of 64 years, Daphne Vincent Simmons of Sulphur; his two daughters, Cathy Whaley and husband Doug of Sulphur and Karole Borel and husband Mike of Groves, TX; daughter-in-law, Ronalda Simmons; 12 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; 6 great-great grandchildren; his brother, Clifford Simmons and wife Lou Ann of Nederland, TX.; his sister, Dortha Jean Lisenby and husband Samuel of Nederland, TX; He was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert and Irene Simmons; his son, Mike Simmons.   Funeral services will be held on Thursday, December 17, 2015 at 10 A.M. at Johnson and Robison Funeral Home Chapel with Father Luke Krzanowski, M.S. officiating. Burial will be in Big Woods Cemetery under the direction Johnson and Robison Funeral Home. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, December 16, 2015 from 4-9 P.M. with a rosary at 6 P.M. at the funeral home. Visitation will continue on Thursday at 8 A.M. at the funeral home until time of the service. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Shana Olsen, 2036 Bolton Rd., Sulphur, LA 70665.
