Herbert Leo Kent

Herbert Leo Kent, 80, lovingly known as Herbie to his friends and family, entered into eternal rest at home surrounded by loved ones on December 23, 2016.

Herbie was born on December 20, 1936 in Oakdale, LA to Lucille J. Kent and Herbert Troy Kent. He spent the majority of his life in Lake Charles. He attended LaGrange High School, where he discovered a love for boxing, and not long after high school he joined the U.S. Navy. He went on to be a cost accountant for Levingston Ship Builders and Texas Dry-Dock in Orange, TX for many years. Herbie had a love for sports, and was an avid golfer. In his later years, he could be seen in his wheelchair making his way to Nina P’s for his daily lunch. Herbie always had a huge smile and a spirit that could not be broken. He showed us all how to make lemonade out of lemons.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lucille J. Kent and Herbert Troy Kent; and also by his brother, Mike Kent.

Left to cherish his memory are his brother, Gerald Kent; sister, Linda Weaver; nieces, Lindsey Williams and husband Jason and Samantha Prichard and husband Tyler, all of Lake Charles; two great nieces, and three great-nephews.

His memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, December 28, 2016 at the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. Reverend Rob Walls will officiate. Gathering of family and friends will begin at 12:00 PM on Wednesday.
