Hilda Mae Myers Walker Davis 91, died on November 23, 2023.
Hilda was born in Jayess, MS on February 7, 1932 (or March 1st, according to the doctor who only submitted paperwork once a month) to Alex and Velma Myers. She was the youngest daughter of a total of 15 children. She graduated from Carter’s Creek School in 1951. Later that same year, Hilda married Wilber “Bill” Walker. During their 10-year marriage, they had two daughters and she worked for the telephone company in Atlanta, Ga. In 1962, she married James “Dynamite” Davis. Together, they raised their own ‘Brady Bunch’ of his, hers, and theirs during their 55-year marriage. In 1967, they moved to Westlake, LA. Hilda taught at Demmons School of Beauty for 10 years. She was active in her church and was awarded the UMW Woman of the Year in Missions award in 1995.
After surviving two hurricanes on Moss Lake, Hilda moved with her husband to Moss Bluff, LA. She was a writer and poet who was proud to have her work published in a book at the Library of Congress. She firmly believed that skin care was crucial, and your make-up should match your accessories. Hilda rarely went without nail polish and going to the hairdresser was a weekly treat. Anytime her grandchildren asked her to hurry up, she replied “you don’t mess with Gran and her lipstick.”
She believed that her bed should be made every day so that she could kneel at the bedside to say her prayers. She also believed that if you started eating before praying over a meal, you needed to ask forgiveness. Hilda always had refreshments ready and if you left her house hungry, it was your own fault. She enjoyed boiling hot coffee, soap operas, and fresh tea.
Upon entering the gates of heaven, Hilda was greeted by many friends and family members, including her grandson. She is survived by Patricia Walker Manuel (Dennis), Pamela Walker Martin (“Buddy”), Trina Renaa’ Davis (Andre LaCroix), James “Jim” Jr. Davis (Karen), and Donald R. Davis. She had 11 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, one brother, Jerry Myers, and numerous nieces and nephews. Our family will continue the fight against Alzheimer’s Disease in her honor.
Services for Hilda will be on Tuesday, November 28, 2023, at 1 PM at Johnson and Robison Funeral Home in Sulphur. Burial will follow at Mimosa Pines Cemetery in Carlyss. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 10 AM until the time of service.
