Hilda Mary Dally

August 19, 1924 — November 10, 2017

Hilda Ducote Tassin Dally passed away peacefully on Friday, November 10, 2017.

Hilda Ducote was born August 19, 1924 in Cottonport, LA to Oscar and Josephine Ducote.  She married Murray Tassin in 1942 in a double ceremony with her sister, Anna Mae and her husband, James Tassin.  They lived in Marksville, and after their first year of marriage, Hilda and Murray expanded their family with the arrival of their daughter, Amy.

Always a prim and proper true southern Belle, she earned the nick name "High Stepper" from her peers in Marksville.  Tragedy struck in 1959 with Murray's untimely passing due to complications from having had scarlet fever when he was a child.   Later, she was introduced by friends to Rocky Dally.  Together they moved to the Lake Charles area and had three children, Joe, Roxanne, and Sandra. In 1968, tragedy struck again when our Dad suffered a fatal plane crash.  Thinking only of her three young children and never of herself, Mom stayed in Lake Charles because she saw opportunity for her children.

She was a homemaker, a mother, a best friend and mentor to her family.  Always home when we got home from school, and always there for her family, she made our house a home.  Mom was a true inspiration to her children, and a "tough little fighter."  She is the matriarch of our family and the glue that so strongly held our family together. Her children were her life, and she taught us how to be good parents and how to have good moral values. She taught us:  "Do unto others, Suga Pie", "Silence is Golden", and her favorite, "Kind words don't wear out the tongue."  A child of the great depression era, she taught us to be conservative and that it is possible to "do without" when necessary.   In 2003, at the age of 79, she began having heart problems, and had a quadruple bypass. Dr. Gilmore and Ralph Hays of St. Pats saved her life, and afforded us a valuable 14 more years with our precious mother. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Murray Tassin, parents, Oscar and Josephine Ducote, her sisters, Mabel, Edine Raspberry, and husband Max, and James Tassin; Anna Mae, Velma Scallan, and husband Leroy, her brother Alan Ducote and wife Coreen, and her second husband, Rocky Dally.

The family she leaves to cherish her memory and carry on her amazing legacy are her daughter Amy Tassin Couvillion, and her husband Gene of Manassas, VA, son Joe dally and wife Melina, daughter Roxanne Wells and daughter Sandra Dally, all of Lake Charles.  Grandchildren Pam and Trey Nelson, Doug and Shannon Covillion, Michelle Couvillion, all of Manasses, VA., and Jay Addison and wife Liz, Eric Addison and wife Carrie, Austin Wells, Jessica Dally Bertrand and husband Justin, Jenifer Dally and fiancé Layne Hendricks, Dustin Dally and fiancé Jen LeJeune, Clayton Dally and wife Celina, all of Lake Charles, and great grand children, Charlie and Lilly Nelson, Emily and Mariel Couvillion, Kaitlyn and Gene Norman Flecker, Luke Bertrand, Hayden Hendricks,  Ayden Martin, Layne Addison, Isaac Addison, Pheoebe Addison, Cali Dally, Carli Dally, and Clayton Dally Jr.

Her funeral service will be at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, November 14, 2017 at Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church. Monsignor Daniel Torres will officiate. Burial will follow at Consolata Cemetery under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Visitation will begin on Monday, November 13, 2017 at Johnson Funeral Home at 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM with a rosary being recited at 6:00 PM and will resume on Tuesday morning at the funeral home at 10:00 AM until 1:30 PM.

Pallbearers serving for Mrs. Dally will be Joseph “Jay” Addison, Eric Addison, Dustin Dally, Clayton Dally, Justin Bertrand, and Lane Hendricks.

The family wishes to thank the staff and nurses and CNAs at Resthaven, for the love and care they have provided for Mom for the past five years.  They were our extended family.
