Ida Jane Babineaux Miller, 86, of Lake Charles died Thursday January 14, 2016 at a local hospital.
She was born on Christmas Day in 1929 in Sweetlake, the daughter of Delva Babineaux and Leona Broussard.
As a young lady, she raced quarter horses and was so fast, she was often challenged to races and never lost. At 21, she moved to Lake Charles to attend business school. Her and her roommates would often attend dances at the USO. She married a local boy from Grandlake, Stanley Miller. The young couple moved to Alamogordo where Stanley was stationed. In 1957, they welcomed Pam, in 1963, they welcomed Linda and in 1967 they welcomed Glenn into their growing family.
Her business degree led her to be a successful registrar at Alamogordo High School. In 1969, the family moved back to Lake Charles where she quickly found employment with the First National Bank running computers. She left the bank to conclude her career working at Huber Oil. Ida cared for her daughter Pam after she became disabled with a brain aneurysm until Pam passed away in 2009. She also raised Pam’s daughter, Kayla Miller, from the age of 2.
She was a true Cajun country girl at heart and often recounted her childhood memories of growing up. She enjoyed gardening and was a fantastic cook. She loved her friends and family. She will never be forgotten. So when you see a cloud in the sky it may just be Ida smoking a cigarette & cooking.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and daughter, Pam. Those left to honor and cherish her memories are her daughter, Linda Vasquez and husband Roberto, Albuquerque, NM; son, Glenn Miller, Lake Charles; granddaughter, Kayla Miller, Lake Charles; brother, Hugh L Babineaux, Lake Charles and sister, Helen Noder, Cheney, WA; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.
