Ida Fontenot

Ida Mae Fontenot, 94, of Lake Charles passed away, Friday, April 16, 2021 from the comfort of her daughter’s home, following a brief illness.

Mrs. Fontenot was born in Mamou, LA to Estelie and Corrles Reed.  She has lived seventy years in Lake Charles.  Mrs. Fontenot has enjoyed many things throughout the course of her life and always enjoyed vegetable gardening, fishing, camping and their camp at Bundick Lake.  Later in life she loved CCOA bus trips to the casinos, senior Olympics and little vacation getaways.  She was a GREAT cook and will be remembered for her gift of seasonings and technique, her specialty dish being pork roast.  Mrs. Fontenot was an admirable lady of her generation and of faith and prayer.  She was a pioneer member of Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church.

She leaves to cherish her memory, two daughters, Carolyn Fontenot Gonzalez of Houston, TX and Bernita Fontenot Hanks and husband L.J. of Moss Bluff; five grandchildren, James Gonzales (Mary), Deanna Ochoa and Steven Gonzalez (Malynda), all of Houston and Darrell Hanks (Donna) of Sulphur and Angie Holbrook (Shayne) of Moss Bluff; seven great grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren and her dearest friend, Eula Mae Benoit of Lake Charles.

She was preceded in death by her husband of nearly forty years, Delma Joseph Fontenot; son, Larry James Fontenot, parents; one brother, Delma Reed and one sister, Cora Hebert.

The family of Mrs. Fontenot wishes to express heartfelt thanks to the nurses and staff of Heart of Hospice for their excellence in care and compassion.

Funeral services will be at 1:30 PM Thursday, April 22, 2021 at Johnson Funeral Home in Moss Bluff.  Father Aubrey Guilbeau will officiate.  Interment will follow in Consolata Cemetery.  Visitation Thursday will be from 10:30 AM until the time of service in the funeral home. A rosary service will begin at 12:00 PM.
