Irwin Carrol Stine was born in Moss Lake, LA on September 21, 1928 to Irwin E. and Lydia Heard Stine and passed away on September 4, 2018. He was a lifelong resident of Sulphur, LA.
His life path led him to leave Sulphur High and enlist in the U.S. Navy. Her served for three years in the Seabees, a U.S. Navy Battalion. He returned to Sulphur and graduated from Sulphur High School. He began a career for Mobil Oil that spanned 37 years, beginning as a utility man and retiring as a construction superintendent. During his career he continued his education by attending McNeese State University and Sowela Technical Institute, and employer sponsored education programs. This resulted in his becoming a welding and construction inspector.
He was a faithful member of First Baptist Church, serving on various committees. As a volunteer for the mission program, he was selfless in service and blessed to give a helping hand to those in need. In the past he was a member and served at Vincent Settlement Baptist Church. He was a diligent and dignified man with a gentle and gracious nature. He enjoyed traveling worldwide with Betty, his wife.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Betty Havens Stine of Sulphur; three sons, James Stine of Singer, Coy and Dana Stine of Singer and Barry and Elise Stine of Hackberry; one daughter, Carolyn Stine Hunt of Sulphur; 10 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Irwin E. and Lydia Stine; two brothers, Marvin Stine and Coy Stine; three sisters, Ella D. Watson, Ruth Goodwin and Ruby Mattwell; and one great granddaughter, Raelyn Marino.
A memorial service for Irwin will be held on Saturday, September 8, 2018 at 2 PM at Johnson and Robison Funeral Home. The family will receive friends on Friday, September 7, 2018 from 6-9 PM and will resume on Saturday from 11 AM until the time of service.
