Iva Pritcher Joiner (Penny), 74, passed away at her home on January 23, 2026, surrounded by her loved ones. Penny was born in Atlanta, Georgia on April 3, 1951, to parents Iva Chandler Pritcher and Jacob Ralph Pritcher. She resided in Monroe, LA before moving to Lake Charles in 2016.
Penny graduated from the University of Louisiana at Monroe in Elementary Education and taught in the Monroe City School System for over 40 years. While teaching in a regular classroom she excelled in assisting students with special needs and learning disabilities. Many of her students maintained contact with her into adulthood appreciative of her efforts in their education. While living in Monroe, Penny was a member of various civic organizations and deeply involved in her church. She was a member of Parkview Baptist Church where she served as a Sunday school Teacher and sang in the choir for many years. Later she was a charter member of Northminster Church where she served on many committees, served in leadership roles and was a member of the Sanctuary Choir and handbell choir for 25 years. After relocating to Lake Charles to be near to her beloved daughter and grandchildren, she was a member of First United Methodist Church where she continued to serve in the Chancel Choir and Asbury Ringers Handbell Choir. She served as Treasurer of the Calcasieu Orchid Society for many years.
Those left to cherish her memory are her husband of 50 years, R. Keith Joiner, Daughter, Amanda Joiner Saltzman and husband, Andy E. Saltzman and two Grandchildren, Anna Leigh Saltzman and Andy E. Saltzman, Jr. (AJ). One sister, Sylvia P. Greene and husband, Richard E. Greene and one Brother, Jacob R. Pritcher, Jr. and wife, Barbara Colvin Pritcher, all of Arlington, TX, Brother in law, Larry W. Joiner and wife, Zenora R. Joiner of Canton, MS. A host of nieces, nephews and cousins mourn her passing.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Iva C. And Jacob Ralph Pritcher and her in-laws, Rebel Albritton Joiner and Luzon Joiner, Jr. and Sister in law, Rebecca A. Joiner.
The family would like to express heart felt thanks to the staff of First United Methodist Church, the Chancel Choir, the Fellowshipers Sunday school Class and the many church members who supported the family through prayer, cards, and acts of kindness. Special thanks to the medical support staffs which have contributed to her care.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to First United Methodist Church, Lake Charles or to Saint Martin de Porres Catholic Church of Lake Charles.
A Memorial Service will be held at First United Methodist Church, 812 Kirkman Street, Lake Charles, LA on Saturday, February 7, 2026 at 11:00am. Visitation will start at 9:00am in Paxton Hall, FUMC.
