Ivan Barry

November 27, 1932 — December 4, 2025

DAD - Your guiding hand on our shoulders will remain with us forever

Ivan Dupre Barry, Jr, 93, of Beaumont, Texas passed away on Thursday, December 4, 2025, in Lake Charles, Louisiana. Ivan, "Bubba", to his family, was born on November 27, 1932, in Beaumont, Texas to Ivan Joseph Barry and Therese Dupre and was a lifelong resident of Beaumont until he and his cherished wife of 67 years, Patricia Halfin Barry, moved to Lake Charles to be closer to family in June 2024. Pat preceded Ivan in death on April 12, 2025, and they have now been rejoined for eternity. Ivan is survived by his brother Michael Barry, daughter Jennifer Alison Barry Gill and partner Michael Martin, son Ivan "Van" Dupre Barry, Jr and wife Desiree Barry, grandchildren Stewart Jennings Gill, Meredith Ann Gill, Samuel Wallace Gill, Shea Austyn Barry, Leyton Giles Barry, Blakeley and Stephen Janecek, Ainsley and Xander Keller, Tanner Martin, and great-grandchildren Ellie Rose Champagne, Winter Janecek, and Juniper Keller. Ivan was preceded in death by his sister Joanne Barry Leusch and brother Anthony Patrick Barry.

Ivan met the love of his life Pat in a random walk by during a sorority stunt on the campus of Lamar Tech where he professed to his friend upon first sight, "I'm going to marry her". And they did, beginning their lifelong journey in 1957. Ivan graduated from St Anthony's Cathedral School in 1950 before enrolling at St. Thomas University in Houston, Texas. After two years he transferred to Lamar as St. Thomas did not offer a Geology program where he then earned a Bachelor of Science in Geology in 1955. After marriage he concluded his Naval flight training military service after two years in Pensacola, Florida as a Class Three Lieutenant before he and Pat returned to Beaumont in 1958. Ivan continued his service for nine years as a member of the Naval Reserve. He had a seven-year stint in the insurance industry before joining Barry & Barry Sand Co. in Silsbee, Texas, where he stayed for 30 years. He left Barry & Barry in 1995 and founded his own company Barry Industrial Sand located in Rose City, Texas where he remained until retirement in 2018.

His life was surrounded by family and the constant companionship of his beautiful wife. Over their 67 years together they rarely were apart, and Pat became a truly remarkable and strong advocate for Ivan as his memory and health declined.

He was an avid and accomplished tennis player that included a core group of friends who kept a standing Tuesday night game going for over 30 years. In his younger years he enjoyed skiing, both snow and water, and could pick up most athletic endeavors quickly. He loved traveling with friends to all parts of the world as well as spending lots of time at the beach on Bolivar Peninsula. He did not, however, love sitting around the house and relaxing, as he always had a project going. Although these projects were rarely fully completed, they were usually just functional enough to allow him to move on to the next one ... or two. He was a do-it-yourselfer before do-it-yourself was even a thing and he could make a little go a long way.

Funeral and interment services will be at 10:00 a.m. on February 7, 2026, at St. Mark's Episcopal Church, 680 Calder Avenue, Beaumont, Texas with Father Keith Giblin officiating. A reception will follow at Courville's Kitchen, 1744 Rose Lane, Beaumont, Texas.
