Jack Emerson Rowley Jr., 78, passed away peacefully on August 14, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on September 20, 1946, in Port Arthur, Texas, to Jack Emerson Rowley Sr. and Doris Ann Lopez Rowley.
Jack grew up in Port Arthur and began his working life at the Texaco refinery after spending ten years in the US Air Force. Refinery work was a job he quickly realized was not for him. He left the refinery and joined the Texas Department of Corrections, working at the Texas State Penitentiary in Huntsville. It was there he found his calling. Jack thrived in this line of work and later transferred to the United States Penitentiary in Beaumont, Texas. He proudly served in the Texas Department of Corrections for 30 years.
Jack was an outgoing man with a love for the outdoors. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, and could often be found sitting around a campfire with his favorite beer in hand. A hard worker by nature, Jack took great pride in his home, keeping his yard and landscaping immaculate. His tools were always clean, organized, and ready for use.
In 2005, Jack met the love of his life, Carol, at a dance. The connection was instant-so much so, that his glasses fogged up the first time they danced together. Carol was drawn to his million-dollar smile, pressed jeans, and cowboy hat. Over the next 20 years, they built a life filled with laughter, love, and fun.
Jack was a man who loved deeply and cared fiercely for those in his circle. He was generous, loyal, and always ready to lend a hand. Known for his sense of humor and playful spirit, he brought joy to those around him and created memories that will be treasured forever.
Jack is survived by his wife of 20 years, Carol Rowley; his children, Shannon Rowley (Fay), Sean Rowley (Brandon), Leigh-An Sonnier, Billy Jack Rowley, Tana White, Deann Fontenot, Max Holtzclaw, Chans Miller, and Johani Miller; and his 19 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jack Emerson Rowley Sr. and Doris Ann Lopez Rowley.
Cremation has been entrusted to Johnson Funeral Home in Moss Bluff, Louisiana.
