James “Butch” Hayes Robbins, 75, died on February 25, 2026, in Lake Charles Louisiana.
Butch was born November 27, 1950, to Bernice Joy (Hayes) Robbins and James Hyde Robbins in Crowley Louisiana. Butch moved to Sulphur LA in 1953 with his parents after his father got a job with Olin and lived on Leland St. in Sulphur. Butch was later blessed with two younger brothers John and Joel Robbins. Butch loved being the older brother often bringing his two younger brothers on fishing and hunting trips and other mischievous adventures they were not allowed to tell Dad about. Butch was a lifelong member of Henning Memorial United Methodist Church in Sulphur.
Butch was an avid athlete and while playing for the Sulphur High School Tors Football Team, he was awarded the coveted title of being selected as the Louisiana 1968 All State Guard and helped lead the team to the 1968 Louisiana High School Football Championship game. Butch graduated Sulphur High in 1969 and was awarded a football scholarship to South Eastern University in Louisiana where he attended for a short time. In 1971 Butch enlisted in the United States Navy where he served for 4 years as an aviation hydraulic mechanic. Butch spent the majority of his time stationed at the Naval Air Station in Corpus Christi TX.
After being honorably discharged, Butch returned to Sulphur and went to work for Citgo at the lubrication plant where he worked for approximately 30 years and retired. Butch fathered his two children, Jason Robbins and Katy Cornette. Butch was always present with his kids supporting them in each of their endeavors, whether that was participating in campouts with his son Jason in Scouting or attending numerous softball games and tournaments with his daughter Katy.
Butch married his wife Patricia Ann (Cranford) Robbins on December 31, 2017. Butch and Patricia lived life to the fullest by celebrating their love through dancing, cruising, and enjoying the sunsets together in the backyard of their home. By marrying Patricia, Butch acquired two bonus daughters and six bonus grandchildren who he loved and cherished as his own.
Butch is preceded in death by his parents, James and Bernice Robbins, and his brother John Dennis Robbins of Sulphur.
Butch is survived by his wife Patricia Robbins of Sulphur; brother Joel Robbins of Sulphur; son Jason Robbins and his wife Tiffani of Sulphur, daughter Katy (Robbins) Cornette and her husband Wells of Haughton LA; bonus daughters Kimberly (Fry) Graham of Westlake and Jenny Fry of Moss Bluff; grandchildren Jaxon, Mike, Matt and Maxx; bonus grandchildren Carlo, Russell, Christian, Gage, Cole and Cora and numerous nephews and nieces.
Butch’s hobbies and passions included hot rod classic cars, firearms, hunting, and fishing, but his biggest passion in life was that of his family and friends. Butch valued his family and friends more than anything and was always available to help any one of them when in need.
