James Douglas Dunman Iii

October 10, 1931 — May 21, 2021

James Douglas Dunman, III, 89, of Lake Charles passed away Friday, May 21, 2021 in a local hospital.

Mr. Dunman was born in Eldarado, AR, raised in Homer, LA and has lived most of his life in Lake Charles.  He served in the United States Air Force and was a member of the American Legion and VFW.  Mr. Dunman was a well-respected carpenter within our community and the Capenter’s Local #953 as he worked on the construction of many of the landmarks of the Lake area: The Civic Center, Calcasieu Marine Tower, Burton Coliseum, 2-10 Bridge and Calcasieu River Bridge.   He enjoyed working in his yard, growing a garden, and building many tree houses for his daughter and the neighborhood kids.  He also enjoyed annual vacations with his family.  Mr. Dunman will be most remembered as hard working, generous and as a man of faith.

He leaves to honor his memory, his daughter, Jammie Lea Dunman Collins of Moss Bluff; stepson, Ray Riley of Oklahoma; stepdaughter, Linda Block of Michigan; three grandchildren, Cody Alexander (Tempe) Courtney Collins (Cody Fruge) and Juliette Bandeaux (Patrick Miller); two great-grandchildren, Aries Alexander and Cylvia Fruge and many dear cousins.

He was preceded in death by his wife of forty-five years, Margie Lea Dunman; parents, James Douglas Dunman, III and Gladys Thornton and one brother, William Dunman.

Graveside services will be at 1:00 PM Friday, May 28, 2021 at New Ritchie Cemetery in Moss Bluff.  Reverend Jerod Grissom will officiate.  A private memorial family gathering was held Wednesday. 

Memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital at st.jude.org.
