James Max Bishop

June 18, 1930 — March 4, 2017

James Max Bishop, 86, of Moss Bluff, LA, died at 6:11 AM on Saturday, March 4, 2017 in his residence.

 

Mr. Bishop was born on June 18, 1930 in Ponca City, OK, where he was raised and met his wife of sixty-three years, Wanda McKain Bishop, in their childhood church nursery. He served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. Max and Wanda lived in Sulphur for twenty years before moving to Moss Bluff. After retiring from Conoco, they enjoyed traveling across the country as contract Right of Way agents for twenty years.

 

Mr. Bishop was a lifelong member of the Church of the Nazarene and helped build the church on Country Club Road. He was the loving father of five “little” girls and will always be remembered as a fun loving dad to his girls and grandchildren. He enjoyed spending time with his children and helping his wife make the holidays special for his family.

 

Mr. Bishop is survived by his daughters, Sharon Dailey of Sulphur, Barbara Mason and husband Stephen of College Station, Susan Janies and husband Rick of Sulphur, Debbie Ferrando and husband Mike of Pasadena, and Cathi Manuel of Moss Bluff; sister, Naomi Miller of Lake Charles; eleven grandchildren, Kelly Butler, Amy Byrd, Laura Olivarez, Sarah Broussard, Stephanie Reed, Britain Moore, Timothy Moore, Christopher Moore, Zachary Moore, Kade Savoie, and Luke Manuel; thirteen great-grandchildren, Britney Butler, Katelyn Butler, Mallory Butler, Orin Byrd, Sydnee Byrd, Avree Byrd, Emmy Broussard, Asher Broussard, Trace Broussard, Brayden Reed, Mason Reed, Elijah Savoie, and Lily Savoie.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents, James W. Bishop and Beatrice Pauline Dunn Bishop; wife, Wanda Jean McKain Bishop; sister, Peggy Woolman; grandson, Clancy Janies; son-in-law, Carroll Dailey; and two great-grandsons.

 

His funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, March 11, 2017 at the First Church of the Nazarene. Reverend John Hoffpauir will officiate. Burial will follow in Mimosa Pines Cemetery – South. Visitation will be at Johnson Funeral Home on Friday from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM and continue on Saturday at the church from 12 Noon until the start of the service.

 

Pallbearers for the service will be his grandsons

 

The family would like to give a special thanks to Dr. Ronald Lewis and Melinda Strickland, NP, for the many years of care; as well as the nursing staff at Lake Charles Memorial and the Heart of Hospice.
