James William (Bill) “Cuz” McCardle, 83, of Vinton passed away on March 31, 2026. Born in Morgantown, WV, Bill was raised in Oakdale and lived most of his adult life in Vinton, where he spent his professional career as a welder then the Park Grounds Director and Recreational Manager for the Ward 7 Recreation Center. A devoted baseball coach, he generously shared his time and passion with athletes of all ages, leaving a lasting impact on generations of players. He was often heard announcing games or following his beloved Vinton Lions athletics teams around the state. In 2018, a field at Ted Lyons Ballpark was named for him for his decades of dedication and service to youth sports. The Town of Vinton commemorated September 15, 1995 as “Bill McCardle Day” for his support of the community’s youth. Whether coaching on the field or driving around town visiting with friends, he was a constant and caring presence in the community he loved.
Bill is survived by four sons, Jeffrey, Kevin (Thomas), Tony (Julie), and Todd (Jilliane); nine grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his wife, Diane Monceaux McCardle, and his parents James Felix McCardle and Belva Pike McCardle. The family would like to thank the nursing staff at The Care Center of DeQuincy for their support and care.
The family will receive friends on Monday, April 6, 2026 from 9 A.M. until 1:00 P.M. at Johnson Funeral Home in Sulphur. Funeral services will begin at @ 1:00 P.M. following the visitation with Bro. Raymond Richard officiating. Burial will be in Mimosa Pines Cemetery in Carlyss under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home.
