It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of James E. Kjerulff, Sr. “Pete”, age 89, of Lake Charles, Louisiana. He went to be with the Lord on December 5, 2017 surrounded by his family. Pete was born to Anton P. Kjerulff, Sr. and Hazel Grubbs Kjerulff on October 10, 1928.
He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy from 1946-1948. After returning home, he worked various jobs. In 1951 he met his wife, Doris, and the two were married for 66 years. He joined the Plumbers and Steamfitters Local 106 in 1953. He received outstanding apprentice in 1954 and was passionate about his career and remained a loyal local member for 64 years. He was a member of Sale Street Baptist Church for 40 years. Throughout his life, he enjoyed fishing, hunting and gardening as well as woodworking.
He found great pleasure when his children, grandchildren and friends would come to visit. Pete was affectionately known by his family as “Gramps” and was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and brother with a strong love for his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Anton Peter Kjerulff, Sr. and Hazel Kjerulff; three brothers, Anton Peter Kjerulff, Jr., Lauritz Kjerulff, and Milton Kjerulff; and two sisters, Hazel Vincent and Mary Kjerulff Baker.
He is survived by the love of his life, Doris B. Kjerulff; his sons, Eddie Kjerulff and Paul Kjerulff (Marla); his nephew / son, Steve Kjerulff (Theresa). He also leaves three grandchildren, Mike Kjerulff, Lauren Brown and Lindsey Kjerulff Thibodeaux and three great-grandchildren, Westin Brown, Makynlee Schelette and Luca Kjerulff.
His funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, December 9, 2017 at the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. Brother Randy Edwards will officiate. Burial will follow in Highland Memory Gardens. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Friday from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM and continue on Saturday from 8:00 AM until the start of the service.
