James R. Waguespack

Surrounded by his family, James Ronald Waguespack, 78, of Lake Charles, passed away Thursday November 2, 2017 in a local hospital following a brief illness.

James was a native of New Iberia, where he was raised and educated. Following high school graduation, he joined the United States Navy, where he honorably served our country for five years. After his discharge, he became a welder with Mobil Oil Company and retired after 20 years of loyal service. James loved being with friends, dancing, playing poker, sports, horse racing, being a jokester, and being a member of the Boogie Buddies. He was a member of Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church, where he was a Third-degree Knight of Columbus.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Simon and Ella Dore Waguespack; sister, Mary Waguespack; brother, Simon Waguespack; wife, Ransey Robichaux Waguespack; son, James Ronnie Waguespack, Jr.; son-in-law, Michael Dupont; and nephew, Lawrence “Larry” Woods. He leaves to honor and cherish his memory his wife, Betty Vallot Mitchell; children, Terry Dupont, Tonya Aucoin (Tracy), Melissa Matthews and Kelli Waguespack; grandchildren, Travis Touchet (Layla), Simon Waguespack (Mandy), James Dupont, Michaela Dupont, Haley Aucoin Melancon (Ryan), Taylor Aucoin, Rhett Cooley, Shelby Cooley, Rachel Cooley, Laila Waguespack, Gabe Waguespack; great grandchildren, Cooper Waguespack, Cullen Waguespack, Harlee Waguespack, and Charlee Melancon; sister, Beverly Woods (Lawrence “Red”) and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.

Visitation will be from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Saturday November 4, 2017 at Johnson Funeral Home. A Rosary will be recited at 6:00 PM on Saturday. Visitation will continue and Sunday November 5, 2017 from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM. A Memorial service will be at 1:00 PM on Sunday at the funeral home with Deacon George Carr to officiate. Burial will follow at Prien Memorial Gardens.
