James Norris Schooler

James Norris “Jim” Schooler, 78, passed away peacefully in Lake Charles, Louisiana, on Thursday, February 19, 2026. He was born on May 12, 1947, in Ferriday, Louisiana, to Harold and Arrie Kerrigan Schooler.

Jim was raised in Winnsboro, Louisiana, where he graduated from Winnsboro High School. In his younger years, he was active in sports, and was affectionately known as “Mr. Irresistible” by his classmates, a nickname that reflected the easy charm and confidence he carried throughout his life.

He devoted much of his time to serving his community. Jim was a proud member of the Krewe of Contraband Mardi Gras Krewe and served as president of its board of directors in 1985. He officiated high school football games as a referee and gave faithfully of his time through public service, serving on the Calcasieu Parish Police Jury in the 1980s and as a member of the Calcasieu Parish School Board. He was also involved professionally and civically with SWANA (Solid Waste Association of North America) and served on the board of directors of Solid Waste of Louisiana.

Outside of his work and service, Jim enjoyed duck and deer hunting and loved to travel. He never met a stranger and had a way of making people feel welcome and valued.

His life was marked by service, loyalty, and love for those closest to him. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Those left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife, Patricia Schooler; his grandchildren, Jordan Danna (Sarah), Noah Dressler, and Dillon Dressler; his great-granddaughter, Drew Danna; his brothers, Harold Schooler (Libby) and Daryl Schooler (Hope); his sisters-in-law, Connie Schooler and Linda Moreno; his son-in-law, Andy Dressler (Diana); along with many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Amber Dressler; and his brother, Tom Schooler.

The family would like to give special thanks to Rachel and Julie with Heart of Hospice for their compassionate care.

Jim will be laid to rest in Prien Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home of Lake Charles following a private family graveside service, with Brother Eddie Simmons officiating.
