Iowa-James Simon, 64, born December 27, 1949, loving husband, father, and brother, grandfather, passed away in Lake Charles on Thursday, December 25, 2014.
James was a graduate of Oakland High School in Oakland, CA and attended Sowela in Lake Charles. He served in the U. S. Army and was a Vietnam Veteran. He worked at General Motors in Detroit and retired from Northup Grumman as an airplane technician. He was a member of the American Legion, a past member of the Knight of Columbus with St. Peter Claver, a member of the choir at St. Peter Claver and a member of the Atakapa Indian Tribe. His favorite hobbies were bowling, Zydeco dancing, being with family, friends, cooking his famous BBQ and cheering on the San Francisco 49ers!
He is survived by his loving wife of 9 years, Stephanie Simon; children, Jamie Simon, Lacy Johnson (Erik), Kendra Simon, Julia Taylor, Kimberly Taylor, Robin Taylor and Jarrell Herron; brother, Elgin Simon; sister, Ruth Rideau; grandchildren, Alexia Taylor, Erik Johnson, Jr., Marley & Charlie Guy, Alanah Johnson, Madison Johnson, Shelby Gallien, Jayden Vital and Brielle Faulks; godchildren, Alexia Victorian, Conner Green, Audrinae Joubert and Dorothy Gonzales.
James was preceded in death by his parents, Leo and Celestine (Bellard) Simon; siblings, Christine Prejean and Gerald & Raymond Simon.
Visitation will be in Johnson & Brown Funeral Home on Saturday, January 3, 2015 from 9 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. with a rosary at 10 a.m. A mass of Christian burial will be in St. Peter Claver Catholic Church of Iowa on Saturday, January 3, 2015 at 11 a.m. with Father Offor Celcius officiating. Burial will follow in Lacassine Cemetery under the direction of Johnson & Brown Funeral Home.
