James Victor Fontenot

March 24, 1942 — December 3, 2018

James Victor Fontenot, 76, of Sulphur went to his eternal reward on December 3, 2018 in his residence surrounded by his loving family. He was honorable, dependable and caring.  We were blessed to have had him in our lives.  He was a member of Lighthouse Tabernacle Church for 50 years where he served as an usher for many years. One of his favorite scriptures was: “I had rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God than to dwell in the tents of wickedness.”  Psalms 84:10

His God, his family and his work were his top priorities.  He owned and operated Auto and Magneto Electric Shop and retired in 2017 after 52 years.  He was passionate about his job and he did it well. James served our country in the United States Navy from 1963 to 1965.

James is survived by his wife of 53 years, Ronella Doucet Fontenot of Sulphur; two children, our daughter Kristi Fontenot Kunak and Rhonda Wright, who we were blessed to have in our lives as an emotionally adopted daughter; and 2 grandchildren were blessed with, Gracie Joy and Oriana Faith Kunak; and sister, Julie Miller. He was preceded in death by his parents, Elton and Laura Fontenot; 2 brothers, Davis Fontenot and Elton Fontenot, Jr.; and his sister, Frozine Benoit.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 7, 2018 at 11 A.M. at Lighthouse Tabernacle Church in Sulphur with Rev. Allen Upton officiating. Burial will be held in Mimosa Pines Cemetery South in Carlyss under the direction of Johnson and Robison Funeral Home. The family will receive friends on Thursday, December 6, 2018 from 5-8 P.M. at Johnson and Robison Funeral. Visitation will continue on Friday, December 7, at the church, from 8 A.M. till time of the service.

We extend our thanks to Heart of Hospice and our family and friends who have been supportive in this transition in our lives.
