Jan Cook Tenney, 83, passed away on Sunday, June 21, 2026, in Lake Charles, Louisiana.
She was born on October 13, 1942, in Monroe, Louisiana, to Russell McClain Cook, Sr. and Juanita Atherton Cook. She grew up in Lake Charles and was a 1960 graduate of St. Charles Academy. She later attended McNeese State College.
Jan was a faithful member of Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church and was also involved with the Theresians Catholic Ministry. Her faith was an important part of her life and remained a steady source of strength and guidance.
She retired after 35 years of service with PPG, where she worked as an accounting clerk and records administrator. Away from work, Jan enjoyed simple and meaningful things. She loved walking, reading, and painting with watercolors. She had a quiet appreciation for beauty, learning, and time spent with those she loved. Jan will be remembered with love by her family and all who were blessed to know her. May she rest in the peace of Christ.
Those left to cherish her memory include her husband, John P. Tenney; her daughters, Marti Christine Ammons and husband Terry, and Stephanie Marie Landry and husband Dwayne; her grandchildren, Emily Guskey and husband Zach, Abby Smith and husband Nate, Olivia Gazda and husband Chris, Lauren Todd and husband Eric, and Claire Landry; and her great-grandchildren, Elliot Guskey, Julia Guskey, and Piper Todd.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Russell Cook, Jr.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM on Thursday, July 2, 2026, at Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church, with Msgr. Daniel Torres serving as Celebrant. Inurnment will follow in Consolata Cemetery under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home of Lake Charles.
