Janardanan Ondan Uppot

Janardanan Ondan Uppot, 90, passed away peacefully Thursday, August 6, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. He was born January 24, 1936, in Kannur, India to Rohini and Narayan Uppot.

Janardanan was born and raised in India, where he met his loving wife. He began his career as a Civil Engineer and later moved to Mexico City, where he worked on projects involving the sinking city. He then moved to Liberia, West Africa, where he taught for three years. Janardanan eventually moved to Missouri, where he earned his Ph.D. in Civil Engineering from the University of Missouri- Rolla School of Engineering. He later moved to Cheshire, Connecticut to work before deciding he did not like the cold weather and made his way to Lake Charles, Louisiana. It was here that he found his home and began his 36-year career as a professor of Civil Engineering at McNeese State University, where he eventually retired with the status Professor Emeritus. He also worked as an Independent Consultant specializing in structural inspections. Janardanan had a passion for yoga and enjoyed teaching it at the McNeese Leisure Learning Center.

Above all, Janardanan was a devoted husband and loving father. He was always teaching his children new things and encouraging them to be high achievers. He was known for his calm and patient nature and was always willing to share his knowledge with others. He even taught his beloved wife to drive. His wisdom, kindness, and gentle spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 56 years, Vijay Laxmi Uppot; sons, Raul Nirmal Uppot and wife, Darshana Uppot, and Bobby Anil Uppot; and granddaughters, Zoe Maya Uppot and Mia Alka Uppot.

He is preceded in death by his parents; one brother; and three sisters.

Visitation will be at Johnson Funeral Home on Tuesday August 11, 2026 from 9:00am till 1:00pm.
