Jay Forrest "Pinkey" Coker

May 25, 1934 — February 21, 2017

Jay Forrest “Pinkey” Coker, 82, of Moss Bluff stepped across into eternity with family at his side on Tuesday, February 21, 2017 in his residence.

 

Born on May 25, 1934, raised along the banks of the Pearl River in Columbia, MS, Pinkey enlisted in the US Navy in 1952 serving in the Korean Conflict aboard the USS Stickel #888. He then went into the National Guard Reserve in 1955. He later worked at Olin and PPG for a total of 37 ½ years before retiring.

 

Pinkey, as he was fondly called by friends and family, was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend.

 

Pinkey served his Lord and Savior since the age of 19. He served as Sunday school teacher, Deacon, custodian, and “coffee maker”. He was a faithful member of Moss Bluff Bible Church. He faithfully served as a Gideon sharing Jesus and distributing hundreds of Bibles.

 

Leaving behind to cherish his memories and legacy are his wife of 63 years, Phyllis Cecile Bryant Coker; daughters, Pamela Mercer (John) of Moss Bluff, Cindy LeBlanc (Bryan) of Branson, MO, and Beth Salmons (John) of Magnolia, TX; 11 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; and multiple nieces and nephews.

 

He was preceded in death by his father, Pink Forrest Coker; mother, Nettie Breeden Coker Chapman; a son, Forrest Cecil Coker; and a sister, Ruth Turnage.

 

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, February 25, 2017 at the Moss Bluff Bible Church. Rev. Daniel McCabe and Rev. Don Barrett will officiate. Burial will follow in Old Ritchie Cemetery under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Visitation will begin in the church on Friday from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM and will resume on Saturday from 9:00 AM until the start of the service.
