Jeanette Broussard Stutes, 83, of Choupique, Louisiana, passed away peacefully at home on October 3rd surrounded by her loved ones. Born on January 22, 1943, in Sulphur, Louisiana, she was the daughter of Ernest Broussard and Alma Nunn Broussard. She graduated from Sulphur High School in 1961. Shortly afterward she married her high school sweetheart, Willie Ray Stutes, and together, they raised three children.
Jeanette earned an associate’s degree from Sowela, served as secretary of the school’s Phi Beta Lambda Chapter, and completed leisure learning courses at McNeese State University. Throughout her career, she worked in a variety of roles across Southwest Louisiana. She also enjoyed drawing and photography, earning first-place ribbons and other awards at local fairs. Above all, she took immense pride in her children and grandchildren and treasured the time she spent with them.
Jeanette is survived by her loving husband of 65 years, Willie Ray Stutes; her three children and their spouses, Jeff (Suzy) Stutes of McKinney, TX, Tony (Sandy) Stutes of Gray Court, SC, and Tina (John) Scroggins of Baton Rouge, LA; her grandchildren, Michael and Madison Scroggins, both of Baton Rouge; Mindy (Paco) Peralta of Fort Lauderdale, FL; Kristopher (Chelsa) Herman of Greer, SC; her sister, Katie Ruth Abshire of Choupique, LA; her sister-in-law, Sarah Broussard of Choupique; her brother-in-law, Rex Zerger of Katy, TX; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ernest and Alma Broussard; her brothers, Robert and Charles Ray Broussard; her sister, Carolyn Zerger; brother-in-law, Allen Abshire; and several aunts and uncles.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 8th from 9:30-12:00 at Johnson and Robison Funeral Home in Sulphur, Louisiana. Following the visitation, a rosary will be held at 12:30 at St. Theresa Catholic Church in Carlyss followed by a Mass of Christian Burial. Burial will be at Mimosa Pines Cemetery in Carlyss.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial contributions be made to the Lupus Foundation of America, the American Diabetes Association, or a charity of the donor’s choice.
The family extends its heartfelt gratitude to the staff of St. Joseph Hospice of Southwest Louisiana for the compassionate care they provided to Jeanette. They also offer special thanks to Aunt Ruthie for her prayers, loving care, steadfast support, and unwavering presence.
