Jennie Lee Falgout

January 23, 1931 — May 25, 2021

A full life lived to the end: that is the story of Jennie Lee Bruno Falgout, who was born January 23, 1931 and passed away Tuesday, May 25, 2021 in the care of hospice, surrounded and celebrated by family.

Jennie Lee was born in Erath, Louisiana to Edna and Dallas Bruno. She grew up in Vinton, Louisiana prior to moving to and living the majority of her life in Lake Charles, Louisiana. While her great calling and strength was that of a wife, mother, and grandmother, she cared greatly for her own education and the education of others. She attended Southwest Louisiana Institute (now UL-Lafayette) where she earned a Bachelor's Degree in Education and McNeese State University where she earned a Masters of Guidance and Counseling. While at SLI, a simple bus ride carried her into a life-long journey with her husband of seventy years, John Murphy Falgout, Sr. She carried her love for education and others into a successful career teaching business, typing, and shorthand for several years at Vinton High School. She later became the High School Guidance Counselor at Moss Bluff High School and LaGrange High School, where she retired after thirty-two years of faithfully serving her students and colleagues.

Mrs. Falgout was a member of St. Margaret's Catholic Church in Lake Charles, Louisiana. Her love for her family, her devotion to God, and her ongoing commitment to education could not be separated from her deep Catholic faith. Whether she was baking her irresistible chocolate cake, stirring her unbeatable rice and gravy, threading a sewing needle, or giving thoughtful advice to one of her children or grandchildren, Jennie Lee's virtues were visible to all and can be seen in the generations of her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

Mrs. Falgout was welcomed into Heaven by her parents and sister, Estelle McCarthy.

She is survived by her husband of seventy years, John Murphy Falgout, Sr.. She is also survived by five children and their spouses: Charlene Falgout, Yvonne Chafin (Scott Chafin, Sr.) John Falgout, Jr. (Kristin Falgout), Paul Falgout (Karla Falgout), and Terry Falgout along with eighteen grandchildren and twenty-two great grandchildren; and two sisters, Janet Breaux and Muriel Guidry.

Family and friends are invited to her Rosary beginning at 9am at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Vinton, LA, with visitation to follow. A Mass of Christian Burial, led by Father Carlos Garcia will begin at 11am on Saturday, May 29, 2021 with a luncheon to follow. Graveside services will be held at Consolata Cemetery beginning at 3pm.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 1502 Industrial St., Vinton, LA 70668.
