Jerilyn Sue Harvey Carroll, 76, of Oberlin passed away at 3:21 PM on Thursday, August 13, 2026 in Harbor hospice facility.

Born on July 29, 1950, in Elton, where she was raised and graduated from Elton High School. She later moved to Lake Charles to attend McNeese State University, where she earned her teaching degree in Special Education.

After living in Lake Charles her early adult life she moved to Oberlin, where she dedicated her entire teaching career serving as a junior high and high school special education teacher. She retired in 2015 after many years of compassionately serving her students and their families. Throughout her career, she was a devoted advocate for both parents and students, always striving to ensure they received the support they needed to achieve their goals and highest potential.

She enjoyed reading and keeping up with the things important to her on line. She belonged to various social media groups and developed deep friendships. She is described as a positive supportive friend, encouraging and lifting up those she encountered. She will be fondly remembered for her wonderful sense of humor, strong opinions, and gentle but outspoken personality.

Those left to cherish her memory are her siblings, Thomas Harvey (Linda), Sylvia Marcantel, Diane Lantz (Terry), and Debbie Shreve (Stan); nieces and nephews, Garald Harvey (Emma), Jason Harvey, David Harvey (Casey), Sara Martinez (B), Christina Renard (Billy), Shelley Young (Brent), Stacy Lantz, Joseph Lantz (Chloe), Jeremy Shreve (Ana), and Derrick Shreve (Rachel); and numerous great nieces and great nephews. Paul Courville, affectionately called her BFF was like family and Al Crager, cousin but a sister in all ways important.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Tommy Carroll and her parents, Eve Anna (Darbonne) and Gerald Harvey.

A funeral mass will be held at 10:30 AM on Saturday, August 22, 2026 at St. Paul Catholic Church, 1100 St. Mary St., Elton, LA 70532. Father Jose Vattakunnel will officiate. Burial will follow in St. Paul Catholic Church Cemetery in Elton under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home in Lake Charles.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to their “honorary sister,” Al Crager, for her continued support, time, and assistance throughout this difficult time.
