Jimmy Allen “Jimbo” Harpster, Sr, born in Bloomington, IL on June 10. 1947, son of Ravis Henry Harpster and Louise Florence (Fogler) Harpster, passed away on Wednesday, December 4, 2024, in his home after a long illness, at the age of 77.
Jimmy was a proud veteran of the United States Army, serving during the Vietnam War. He spent his tour of duty overseas in the 313 Radio Reconnaissance Division and was Honorably discharged at the rank of E-5. He was a 46-year member of the American Legion Post 370 of Westlake, LA; a 45-year member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 1 of Lake Charles, LA; and a 4-year member of the Forty & Eight Organization while residing in Bloomington, IL.
Jimmy was a route salesman for Breen Beverages of Bloomington, IL for 13 years, as well as a Union Steward for the Teamsters during his employment years there. Upon moving to Lake Charles, LA, his career choices in life included working in the public security sector, before he became a coast-to-coast semi driver for several years. At the time of his retirement, he was a truck driver for a local company.
Jimmy enjoyed life outdoors, fishing, hunting, boating, and camping. He enjoyed trail rides, playing guitar, and going dancing with his wife and friends. He loved old western movies, and was content to spend his life in jeans and a shirt, with the hat and boots to go with them.
Jimmy is survived by his wife of 45 years, Mary Lea Stone Harpster; mother, Louise Harpster of Normal, IL; son, Jimmy Allen Harpster, Jr. (Brooklyn Miller) of Sulphur, LA; daughter; Tina Ann Robinson (Patrick) of Chuckey, TN; grandson, Braylon Keith Harpster, step granddaughter, Jailyn Miller, and numerous sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his father, Ravis Henry Harpster; grandfather, Henry Harpster; brothers, Ravis and Jerry Harpster; aunt, Mary “Dolly” Frazier; uncles, Tresmer Miller and Marion Harpster.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, December 10, 2024 at 4 p.m. in Johnson & Brown Funeral Home of Iowa. Cremation will follow the service. Visitation will begin on Tuesday at 3 p.m. in the funeral home.
