Joan Carter Duchmann

June 30, 1929 — December 18, 2018

Joan Carter Duchmann, 89, went to her eternal rest in heaven on December 18 after a long and joyful life serving the Lord by ministering to many who crossed her path. A native of Dallas Texas, she lived in Lake Charles since 1959. She graduated from LSU and ULL and did postgraduate work in Nutrition and Food Service. She served as a dietary aide at Christus St. Patrick Hospital, and as 4H Club agent for Calcasieu Parish youth. While employed a Gulf States Utilities, she directed and hosted a noon show on KPLC sharing recipes and interviewing local guests. She was certified in both Nutrition and School Food Service. She also co-owned A+ Chemical Sales, a chemical supply company, with her husband George who predeceased her in 2015.

Mrs. Duchmann was a faithful member of St. Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church. She was a past member of Family and Consumer Sciences in Home and Community and Krewe de la Famille. She enjoyed playing bridge, including Duplicate, with different groups several times a week, and loved her daily crossword puzzles.

She is survived by her son, Dr. Jay Carter (Debbie), daughter Melody Carter Jackson (Dana), and children Eileen Duchmann, Erich Duchmann (Brenda), Larry Duchmann (Laurie) and Laura Duchmann Savoy (Wade). She delighted in her eleven grandchildren (Chris, Jill, Ashley, Savannah, Aaron, Quinton C., Casie, Quinton S., Alex, Ally, Jackson). She also had eight great-grandchildren and was looking forward to the arrival of two more next year. Her legacy is her deep love for family and friends.

Visitation will be from 4:00pm to 6:00pm Saturday at Johnson Funeral Home and will continue on Sunday from 12:00pm until celebration of life at 2:00pm guided by The Rev. D. Seth Donald. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church memorial fund or to ABC Pregnancy Resource Center.
