JoAnn Becnel

JoAnn Becnel, 72, of Iowa, LA, passed away on June 6, 2026, in the comfort of her home, surrounded by family.

Born on January 3, 1954, in Church Point, LA, JoAnn was the child of Terlin and Viola Higginbotham. She grew up in Iowa, LA, and graduated from Iowa High School. She worked as a dental assistant for over 40 years.

JoAnn's life was a celebration of family, adventures, and well-told stories. She enjoyed cooking, being outside, crosswords, and savoring life's simple pleasures. She never met a stranger, always made the best of any situation, and was a social soul who could turn a gathering into a celebration. She leaves behind a heart full of love and a legacy of joy that will live on in the lives she has touched.

JoAnn is survived by her loving husband, Joe, of 51 years; her sons, Matthew (Heather) and Michael; and her five grandchildren: Gunner, Gabriella, Gaige, Graham, and Kara. She is also survived by her siblings, Donna Appel (Charlie), Ronnie Higginbotham (Peggy), and Cheryl Bertrand (Randy). She was preceded in death by her parents, Terlin and Viola Higginbotham.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, June 10, 2026 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Johnson Funeral Home in Iowa. A rosary will be prayed at 6:00 PM, led by the Knights of Columbus.

In accordance with her wishes, JoAnn's body has been donated to science.

The family would like to thank the Heart of Hospice nurses-Makaila, Lisa, Crystal, and Brandi-and Rodney with Carmichael's for their care and support.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a future date.
