Iowa – Joe Grout Berry, born on January 26, 1934, daughter of the late Joseph Madison and Beulah Pearl (Lowe) Grout, passed away Monday, August 2, 2021, at the age of 87.
Joe attended McNeese and the University of Houston. She was the first female lobbyist in the State of Louisiana. She was very active in her community and will be missed by all who knew her.
She is preceded in death by her parents; spouses, Jessie Guidry, and Lynn Berry; son, James Ancel Wood, II; daughter, Donny Kathleen Bush and brother, Walter Chase “Sonny Boy” Grout.
Joe is survived by her daughter, Julie Bowen McDonald; sister, Sally Spencer (Joe); grandchildren, Sommer Nicole Odom (Joshua); Robert Paul “Bobby” Bush, Jr.; Micheal Alan Grout Bush (Libby Michelle); great-grandchildren, Joshua Taylor Odom; Kaitlyn Alexandra Odom; Brayden Joseph Odom, and Jaxon Paul Bush.
Funeral services were held in Iowa First United Methodist Church on Friday, August 6, 2021, at 11 a.m. with Rev. Dr. Doug Ezell; Rev. Dr. David Dewitt, and Pastor Carl Joseph officiating. Burial followed under the direction of Johnson & Brown Funeral Home of Iowa in Pine Hill Cemetery. Visitation began in the church from 10 a.m. until the time of service at 11 a.m.
