John Chris Bertrand, 85, passed on to Heaven at a local hospital on October 13, 2016 surrounded by his loving family.
Mr. Bertrand was born in Jennings, LA but has spent the last 64 years raising his family in Lake Charles. He lived for his wife Mrs. Bernice Beaugh Bertrand and his family, truly his greatest joys in life. Chris spent his life working as a painter for the Local Union and retired from McNeese State University. In his free time he was an avid golfer and loved to follow his grandchildren’s sporting events. He took much joy and pride in being a grandfather. His family remembers him as an honest, ethical man that wanted to be able to have a clear conscious every night knowing that he worked hard that day. One of his favorite sayings was “this is my world and your’re just living in it.” He was a selfless, giving man that was always willing to lend his skills to others. Mr. Bertrand was very friendly and wanted to strike up conversation with anyone around him so he could tell one of his many funny stories. Mr. Bertrand was a long time member of the Knights of Columbus and was a parishioner of St. Margaret Catholic Church.
Mr. Bertrand leaves behind his beloved wife, Bernice Beaugh Bertrand; two daughters, Christine Bertrand Duos (Kenneth) of Lake Charles, and Melanie Bertrand Dyson (Hardy) of Orange, TX; son, Gregory Bertrand of Palm Springs, CA; sister, Agnes Daigle of Iota, LA; brother, Wilson Bertrand of Maurice, LA; five grandchildren, Brandon Duos (Stacey), Kristy Duos, Katy Edgerton, Tyler Burleson, Hunter Burleson; and three great-grandchildren, Lauren Duos, Luke Duos, Skyla Edgerton.
He is preceded in death by his father, Cyprien Bertrand; mother, Edmae Newman Bertrand; and grandchild, Kayla Duos.
A funeral service will be held Saturday, October 15, 2016 at 1:00PM at Johnson Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Prien Memorial Park. Service will be officiated by Deacon George Carr.
