John Harry Courville, born in Oberlin on April 4, 1943, son of the late Shelby and Carrie (Reed) Courville, passed away in a local hospital on Tuesday, January 2, 2024, at the age of eighty.
John was of the Catholic faith and attended St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. He never met a stranger, was a social butterfly and enjoyed visiting with family and friends. He was an excellent cook and loved sneaking sweets when his wife was not looking.
He is preceded in death by his parents; wife of fifty-nine years, Catherine Courville, son, Bryan Courville, and brother, Bercy Courville.
John is survived by his son, Jonathan Courville (Robin); grandchildren, Shanna Courville, Joshua Courville, Lauren Courville, and Kaitlyn Courville, Austin Hinton, and Noah Hinton (Beth), all of Lake Charles; twin brother, Joe Harold Courville (Margaret) of Baton Rouge; sister, Barbara Manuel of Eunice; great-grandchildren, Gaven Matte, Jaycee Courville, Finlee Courville, Aiden Courville, Ember Simon, and Ryn Courville.
Funeral services are Friday, January 5, 2024 at 10 a.m. in Johnson & Brown Funeral Home of Iowa with burial to follow in Lacassine Cemetery. Visitation will begin Thursday in the funeral home from 5 p.m. until 7:30 p.m., with a rosary at 6:30 p.m. and will resume on Friday from 8:30 a.m. until 10 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to help with funeral expenses.
