Lake Charles – John “Johnny” D. Fontenot, 58, passed away Friday, June 03, 2016 after a lengthy illness. Born on November 21, 1957 in Lake Charles, to the late John A. and Betty A. (Landry) Fontenot, he was employed as a painter & insulator in the petroleum industry, as well as various local plants. Johnny was an accomplished horseman and won many trophies, saddles and buckles participating in local rodeos. He was a past member of the South Lake Charles Riders Club. Johnny was also an avid outdoorsman; especially hunting & fishing. Also, in his spare time, he enjoyed raising pit bulls.
He is survived by his sons, John “Jay” and Billy Fontenot and wife, Kelli; sister, Becky Miller, and husband, Mike; brother, James “Jimbo” Fontenot, and 4 grandchildren, Kora Faith Fontenot, Temperance Grace Fontenot, Demi Rose Fontenot, and Jolie Fawn Fontenot. Johnny is preceded in death by parents.
Visitation is Sunday, June 5, 2016 in Johnson & Brown Funeral Home of Iowa, from 4 p.m. – 9 p.m., with a rosary at 6:30 p.m., with a Celebration of Life service to follow at 7 p.m. Visitation will resume on Monday, from 8 a.m. until 11 a.m. Funeral services are Monday in the funeral home at 11 a.m., with Father Roland Vaughn officiating. Burial will follow in Istre Cemetery in Mermentau, LA.
