It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of John Wayne Dawsey, who departed this life on November 27, 2025, at the age of 88. Born on July 22, 1937, in Port Barre, Louisiana, John spent much of his life in Iowa, Louisiana, where he became a cherished figure in his community.
Wayne graduated from LaGrange High School and devoted over 45 years of his life to the automotive industry, serving as the Service Manager at Bolton Ford. His commitment to excellence in his work was paralleled by his devotion to his family and his deep-rooted faith as a member of the Baptist community.
Wayne was a passionate outdoorsman, finding joy in fishing, going to car shows and helping others. He also had a profound love for history, which he often shared with those around him. As the voice of the Iowa Yellow Jackets, he delighted fans while announcing football and baseball games for many years, becoming a beloved figure in local sports.
Wayne is survived by his sons, Cody Dawsey and Bruce Dawsey; his daughters, Joan Dawsey Schoenfeld and Vicki Dawsey Ricke; and his sister, Pat Fox. He is also survived by five grandchildren and one great grandchild. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
John Wayne Dawsey may be gone, but his spirit and contributions to everyone's lives will remain forever cherished.Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, Johnny Dawsey and Gladys Dawsey; his wife, Maxine Dawsey.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, December 6, 2025, at 11:30 a.m. at Johnson Funeral Home of Iowa, with Pastor Dee Spears officiating. Family and friends are invited to gather beginning at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to the American Heart Association to honor Wayne's memory.
