John R. Higgins, Sr.

Lacassine – John Higgins, Sr., born February 19, 1933, son of the late Thomas P. and Ruth E. (Kirby) Higgins, passed away in his residence Tuesday, September 11, 2018, at the age of 85.
John was an Air Force veteran serving in the Korean War and Vietnam War. He was a resident of the Lacassine area and a former resident of Green Ridge, MD. John enjoyed hunting, farming and gardening.
Survivors are his wife, Martha Lou Kershaw Higgins of Lacassine, LA; sons, John Higgins, Jr. and wife Charlotte of Woodlawn, LA, Carl J. Higgins and wife Margaret of Lacassine, LA; daughters, Erma J. Benoit of Sulphur, LA, Jenny L. Sprague and husband Rickey of Lacassine, LA; step son, Terry Kershaw and wife Cheryl of lake Charles, LA; sister, Jeannine B. Burns and husband Frank of Cumberland, MD; 9 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his 1st wife and mother of his children, Nellie Bourque Higgins, his parents; sister, Alberta Ruth Wright; brothers, Thomas P. Higgins, Jr. and William J. Higgins.
As per John’s wishes there will be a private memorial service. Cremation is under the direction of Johnson & Brown Funeral Home of Iowa.
