Fire Captain John Louis “J. J.” (P-John) Johnson, 62, died December 3, while at work at the Lake Charles Fire Department.
He was born in Pineville and graduated from Rapides High School. After graduation he entered the U.S. Army, where he served for four years before being discharged at Ft. Polk.
After his discharge he joined the Alexandria Fire Department where he worked for five years. On September 1, 2000, J.J. joined the Lake Charles Fire Department as a hoseman. In 2005 he was promoted to driver and in 2011 he became a Captain. He served at Company 7 for many years before transferring to Company 3.
He is survived by his wife, Tanika Edwards Johnson, a son, Jaylon Edwards of Lake Charles, three daughters, Johnalyssa Washington (James) of Houston, Allison Johnson of Lake Charles and Hawaia Jennings of Franklin, La.
He is also survived by his mother, Lucille Johnson of Lecompte, La., five brothers James E. Johnson (Karen) of Dallas, Terry Johnson and Larry (Paula) Johnson both of Houston, Steve Johnson and Michael Johnson of Lecompte, a sister Patricia Johnson (Robert) of Lecompte, also seven grandchildren and five godchildren Shalonda Busch, Marie Clark, Mark Woodruff, Mallory Chatman, and Messiah Glodd, a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, other in-laws and friends, a beloved father-in-law Ernest Edwards (Yvette), and mother-in-law Barbara Spiller.
His father, James Henry Johnson preceded him in death.
Captain Johnson’s funeral services will be at 2:00 PM Friday, December 11, at University Baptist Church under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. The Revs. Tommy Johnson and Fire Department Chaplain, Bart Leger will officiate. Visitation at the church will be from 10:00 AM until service time.
Military honors will be conducted by a detail from Ft. Polk and the Lake Charles Fire Department will conduct graveside services at Consolata Cemetery.
In accordance with state regulations, attendees for visitation and services are respectfully asked to wear masks and follow social distancing guidelines.
