It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of John David Savoy, who left us on January 31, 2026, at the age of 83. John was born on February 6, 1942, in Elton, Louisiana, and spent his life proudly working as a truck driver for Matlack Inc. His dedication to his job and his love for the open road were just part of what made him who he was.
John's family was his greatest treasure. He is survived by his beloved daughters, Becky Smith and Debby Duhon, and his son, Johnny Savoy (Melissa). John also survived by his companion, Nora Fabriguze. John was a loving brother to Donald Savoy (Elaine) and James Savoy (Wonnier), who will all miss him dearly. He leaves 4 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren to cherish his memory.
In addition to his family, John had a passion for training racehorses and had a deep love for French music and dancing, bringing joy and movement to those around him.
To honor John's life, we will hold a visitation on Thursday, February 5, 2026, in Johnson Funeral Home of Iowa beginning at 9:00 AM, with a Rosary recited at 10:00 AM. Friends and family are invited to celebrate John's life on Thursday at 11:30 AM. John will be laid to rest the same day in Lacassine Cemetery.
We remember John not just for his work or hobbies, but for the laughter, love, and memories he shared with everyone. He will truly be missed.
John was preceded in death by his wife, Marie Shiner Savoy; by his father, Edward Savoy; his mother, Ena Buller; and his sister, Elaine Thompson.
