John Anthony Vezina, 67, passed away on Friday, February 20, 2026, in Alexandria, Louisiana. A lifelong resident of Lake Charles, John was born on December 11, 1958, to Letsee and Wilma Garrie Vezina.
John was a 1975 graduate of Barbe High School, where he played both baseball and football. Those who knew him then remember his steady presence and easygoing spirit. He carried those same qualities throughout his life.
In 1972, through a neighbor, John met Christine Scaife. The two dated for a time before life took them in different directions. Years later, in 1995, they reunited and soon realized their story was not finished. They were married on John’s birthday in the church just across the street from Christine’s home, a simple, meaningful beginning to what would become 30 years of marriage.
John was known as a true “shade tree mechanic.” He could often be found under the hood of a car, working patiently with his hands. He enjoyed watching wrestling, loved his cats, and found contentment in the everyday moments of life. Above all, he valued his family and friendships. He was deeply loved and will be missed by many. John’s life was a quiet testament to loyalty, love, and simple joys. May his memory bring comfort to those who knew him, and may he rest in peace.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 30 years, Christine Scaife-Vezina; his sister, Benita Faye Vezina Williams; and his brothers, Joseph Polite Vezina and Larry Glen Vezina. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Cremation has been entrusted to Johnson Funeral Home of Lake Charles.
